Bitwise Launches Self-Custodied Portfolios of Tokenized US Stocks

Bitwise Asset Management has launched automated portfolios built from Coinbase's tokenized US stocks — letting eligible investors outside the United States follow preset strategies while the underlying tokens never leave their own wallets.

The initial lineup covers three strategies — a Mag7-plus basket, robotics, and AI leaders — spanning names like Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, Tesla, and SpaceX. Bitwise designs the model portfolios; Glider executes the trades and rebalancing; the investor holds the assets. Bitwise charges a 0.15% methodology fee on top of trading and platform costs.

A fund with no fund

The structure is the interesting part. A traditional managed product pools client money into a vehicle the manager custodies. Here the manager sells only the recipe: because investors retain the individual tokens, they can also deploy them into DeFi lending and borrowing — with all the protocol risks attached — in a way no brokerage account allows.

It arrives a day after Coinbase's tokenized US equities went live on Base for eligible non-US users, extending trading beyond market hours and outside US borders.

Tokenized equities are compounding

The category is small but no longer a rounding error: tokenized listed stocks total $2.49 billion, up 5.18% in a month, with 2.25 million holders and $27.28 billion in monthly transfer volume, per rwa.xyz. That growth is what pulls asset managers in — Bitwise is not experimenting for fun; it is positioning for the moment tokenized equities become a distribution channel too big to ignore.

The unresolved question is regulatory: none of this is available to US persons, the world's deepest pool of equity investors. Until that changes, tokenized stocks remain an offshore parallel market — one that is quietly building the infrastructure it will need if the door ever opens.
