Ethereum ETFs Drew $29.4m as Fidelity's FETH Broke a Three-Day Outflow Streak

FETH took $26.2m of the day's intake, but the inflow recovered less than a tenth of the roughly $405m that left the funds over the prior three sessions.

US spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds recorded $29.4m of net inflows on 18 September, breaking a run of three consecutive outflow sessions, according to data from Farside Investors.

It was a small number in the context of the week, but it was the first positive reading after several days of redemptions.

Who did the buying

Fidelity's FETH did almost all of the work. It drew $26.2m, close to 90% of the day's total. VanEck's ETHV added $1.9m and Bitwise's ETHW took in $1.3m, while the remaining funds reported no net movement.

BlackRock's ETHA, which had been one of the main sources of redemptions earlier in the week, posted a flat session.

That split is the more telling part of the data. One issuer accounted for nearly all of the new money, two smaller funds contributed modestly, and the week's biggest outflow driver simply stood still. A pattern like that can reflect a specific allocator or platform rather than a broad shift in sentiment.

The week that came before

The Friday figure looks modest against what preceded it. Ethereum funds recorded a $142m net outflow on 15 September, followed by $224.1m on 16 September and a further $39.3m on 17 September.

Taken together, those three sessions removed roughly $405m. Friday's inflow recovered less than a tenth of that.

NewsBTC also noted that the rebound in Ethereum products was considerably smaller than the one seen in Bitcoin funds, although it did not give comparative figures.

How to read ETF flows

Spot Ethereum ETFs hold ether directly, letting investors gain exposure through an ordinary brokerage account rather than buying and storing the token themselves. Daily flows into and out of these products have become a closely watched gauge of demand from advisers and institutions.

They are, however, a noisy signal. New fund shares are created and redeemed through authorised participants, and the timing of those creations and redemptions does not always match moves in the underlying market. Flows can also reflect routine portfolio rebalancing, or a single large allocator moving money through one issuer.

A session dominated by one fund, as this one was, fits any of those explanations. Because Farside reports flows issuer by issuer, that kind of concentration is easy to see, and it is why breadth matters. Inflows spread across several issuers usually say more about general appetite than one large ticket into a single product.

A rebound, not a reset

The most defensible reading of Friday is as a pause in selling rather than a reversal. The money that left earlier in the week has not returned, and the buying was narrowly concentrated.

Even so, the session suggests that demand for Ethereum exposure through regulated funds has not disappeared. After several difficult days, some buyers were still willing to commit fresh capital.

ETHA's flat reading is also worth noting. Having been a major source of outflows, it at least recorded no further net withdrawals that day.

The next few sessions should clarify matters. Should inflows spread beyond Fidelity and appear at several issuers, that would suggest a real shift in the short-term pattern of flows. If they remain concentrated, or outflows resume, Friday may prove to have been a brief respite in a choppier stretch.

For now, Ethereum fund investors have one session of net inflows to set against several days of redemptions, and not much more than that.
