Ethereum Reclaims $2,500 as the Rally Finally Broadens Past Bitcoin

ETH is up roughly 30% on the week — outpacing BTC for the first stretch of this recovery — as staking flows and tokenization keep the fundamental story warm.

Ethereum Reclaims $2,500 as the Rally Finally Broadens Past Bitcoin

Ethereum has done something it spent most of 2026 failing to do: outperform. ETH reclaimed $2,500 this week, rising roughly 30% over seven days and beating Bitcoin's own furious rally over the same stretch — the first time in this recovery that the second-largest cryptocurrency has led rather than followed.

The move retraces a brutal year. ETH entered July around $1,600, ground higher through the summer, then went vertical alongside the broader market once the Treasury's buyback expansion cracked the dollar.

What leadership means here

Ether leading a recovery is a pattern with pedigree — analysts noted the same dynamic emerging from the 2022 bear market, when ETH strength preceded the broader risk appetite returning. The mechanical explanation is that Ethereum concentrates everything the marginal buyer of this cycle wants exposure to: staking yield, the settlement layer for a tokenized-asset market that has passed $38 billion, and the second ETF complex in line whenever institutional flows broaden.

Beneath the price, the network's story has kept developing through the bear: real-world assets on Ethereum and its rollups continue to compound, and the staking economy is busy enough that proposals like EIP-8148 — which would let validators customize how rewards are swept — are live debates about real money.

The gap that remains

Perspective is owed: $2,500 is a fraction of Ethereum's former highs, and the asset has dramatically lagged Bitcoin on every longer timeframe that matters. One week of outperformance does not repair a structural underperformance trade that dominated 2025 and most of 2026.

But market character changes at the margin, and the margin has moved. When the riskier of the two majors starts leading, it means confidence is spreading down the curve — the precondition for everything smaller to catch a bid. Total3's stagnation says the long tail has not caught it yet. ETH at $2,500 says it is next in line if this holds.
